COVID-19 - College Implications

College Implications

Colleges are showing a great deal of grace during this time of COVID-19 by dropping application fees and providing extended deadlines for just about everything.

Most colleges are making official statements to assure future students that they will not be penalized for this worldwide disruption in learning.  This includes both your learning and your extracurricular (resume type) activities.

Testing grace - "Test Optional"

SAT/ACT spring and summer test dates have been postponed causing many colleges to become “Test optional” and have some others considering it.

  • A “Test optional” college means they do not require college entrance exams (SAT/ACT) as a part of their application process.
  • These colleges rely on a more “holistic review” in which your high school transcript, essay, resume and recommendations play a much more important part of painting a picture of the type of student you are and your potential for success at their college/university.
  • This option will be temporary for some while others already have the option and/or may maintain the policy.

SAT Administrations, Including September - a message from the collegeboard

If it’s safe from a public health standpoint, we’ll provide weekend SAT administrations every month through the end of the calendar year, beginning in August. This includes a new administration in September and the previously scheduled tests on August 29, October 3, November 7, and December 5.

Students can register for these administrations starting in May.

CLT Test (Classical Learning Test)

The Classic Learning Test is a relatively new college entrance assessment with a growing number of colleges accepting it – check yours!

It is designed for high school juniors and seniors. The CLT takes two hours, and tests for grammar, literary comprehension, and mathematical and logical reasoning; it also contains an optional, ungraded essay portion.

During this COVID-19 season, students take the exam on their own laptop or tablet, and receive their scores the same day, which they can then share with colleges of their choice at no charge.

College visits have moved online – here’s some great ways to view!

STAY informed and find resourceful ways to continue your passions.
