School Response to Influenza

TCS will continue to implement guidelines and practices for infection control to help decrease the spread of flu among students and school staff during the 2009-2010 school year.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends these everyday steps to protect your health against the flu or any other contagious illness:

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  •  Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze.Alcohol based hand cleaners are also effective.
  •  Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
  •  Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
  •  If you are sick with flu-like illness, CDC recommends that you stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone except to get medical care or for other necessities. (Your fever should be gone without the use of a fever-reducing medicine.) Keep away from other as much as possible to keep from making others sick.

The CDC reports that a H1N1 vaccine is currently in production and may be ready for the public in the fall. As always, a vaccine will be available to protect against seasonal influenza.   Texoma Christian School has a flu shot clinic scheduled for Monday, October 26, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

TCS is in close contact with the Grayson County Health Department and we receive regular updates regarding the H1N1 flu and other health related issues.
