Dual Credit Enrollment Info

Dual Credit Courses (12th grade)

This course work, offered to Seniors through our local Grayson College, can potentially award students dual (both high school & college) credit for approved courses taken.  Experience has shown wide transferability of this coursework to other colleges, however, it is the responsibility of the student to confirm this with the college of their choice.

Students interested in dual credit coursework must:

  1. Be classified as a Senior
  2. Complete a Dual Credit Permission Form with the TCS Counselor
  3. Pass a college entrance exam such as ACT, SAT OR the TSI Assessment
  4. Complete a GC admissions application on line at www.applytexas.org
  5. Show proof of Meningitis immunization
  6. Pay the GC course tuition & purchase text books
  7. Course(s) must be chosen from the TCS approved dual credit course list
  8. Only courses approved for dual credit purposes will be recorded on the transcript.  Additional concurrent enrollment courses will not be listed.
  9. Course(s) must not interfere with TCS day classes if taken off campus
  10. Must receive a “C” or above for high school credit and a “B” or above to receive an “advanced measure” toward the distinguished scholars with Honors degree plan

Acceptable Tests/Scores for Dual Credit Enrollment:

The following scores are acceptable for entrance to Grayson College.  If you did not obtain these scores, you will be required to take and pass the “TSI” – Texas Success Incentive Assessment.

SAT:    1070 combined verbal and math with at least 500 on each section

ACT:    23 composite score with at least 19 on English and Math sections

Dual Credit Approved Courses:

Concurrent College Courses:

Concurrent college courses allow students to pursue additional college hours while in high school.  These courses provide college credit only and do not provide students with high school credit.  Thus, these credits are not recorded on the high school transcript.

Students interested in pursuing these additional college hours must go through the TCS counselor for approval and enrollment.  These courses must not take priority over the TCS schedule or graduation requirements.

The Guidance Counselor is a good resource for concurrent course options.  Students who have completed their high school math credits prior to senior year enjoy the following concurrent courses in Math:

Summer College Coursework

Students will be allowed to obtain up to 6 hrs (3 hrs per summer term) maximum of approved college coursework during the summer prior to their senior year with written approval from Administration.  The remainder of requested college coursework shall be obtained through the natural sequence of coursework offered for TCS seniors.

Dual Credit Internet Classes & Mini-mesters

Internet and mini-mester classes are not eligible for TCS dual credit.  In rare instances of hardship, TCS Administration may grant exceptions to this policy upon timely written request for same.

Dual Credit Tuition & Fee Exemptions

Students may be eligible for tuition and fee exemptions or reduction based on family income.  For more info see the following links or contact the GC business office.
